Published again....

Two of my images have been published in the gallery section of Amateur Photographer in their November 3rd edition.

For anyone thinking of submitting to the magazine it is not a quick process. I submitted a portfolio of 10 images to AP in February 2006. In June 2006 I received an email notifying me that the portfolio had been accepted for publication but that it would not appear in print for 9+ months. In all it has taken 20 months from submission to publication. During this time the format of the magazine has changed and they no longer publish reader's portfolios they now publish a selection of images over five pages. Whereas they used to pay £50 for a published portfolio they now only send the photographer a mug and only the editor's choice of the week receives the £50 (I'm waiting for the postman to deliver my mug).

The images featured in Amateur Photographer as shown below with their original titles.

Soft light...and a bit of news....

First some news: I've just been contacted by Amateur Photographer who have told me they are publishing one or more of my images in their Gallery section in the November 3 rd edition. I submitted a portfolio of 10 images to them in February 2006 so it's only taken 20 months to get to print :)

The image below is a close up of an Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum) in which I've tried to soften the light hitting the petals by using tissue paper as a diffuser. It has also had some post processing in photoshop to enhance the effect (zoom blur on a background layer and the petals faded into that.
